W. Alex Walker '03 (McLean, Va.), a double major in English and government & law, had two articles published in DC One, a magazine describing itself as “Washington's Progressive Lifestyle Authority.”

“Everyone thinks of Washington as just a political world, but this magazine puts its finger to the pulse of all the young and modern activity in Washington, and I wanted to be a part of that,” Walker explains.

For his two major contributions, the student interviewed and wrote profiles of a well-known restaurateur/club owner and a successful businessman. “It was very fulfilling to see my name at the top of an article,” he says.

Walker also assisted with general writing and editing. “Overall, it was a wonderful experience,” he adds. “I wanted to do something productive outside the academic world, which I did through writing for the magazine.”

Walker is interested in pursuing a career in journalism or politics.

“I think Lafayette is a wonderful place to study. It's a small, intimate community,” he says. “The professors are extremely enthusiastic about what they teach and are very dedicated to what they do, and that's why they have so many students who admire them and want to learn from them.”

“Also, it's nice to carry on a tradition,” he adds, noting that his father, Wirt Walker III, is a 1968 Lafayette graduate.

Active in College Theater, Walker played the lead role in the spring semester production of Eric Bogosian's subUrbia. Actor Chris Hutchison, a member of Lafayette's Class of 1991 and guest star on an episode of the NBC television series “Ed,” directed the play at the Williams Center for the Arts Black Box Theatre.

Walker also recently directed a one-act play and starred in two student-directed plays. He is a member of College Republicans.
