Dr. Robert S. Bailey Jr. '76 was named director of the Cataract and Primary Eye Care Service (CPEC) of Wills Eye Hospital, Philadelphia in April 2001. He joined the staff as resident in 1981 after receiving his M.D. degree from Hahnemann Medical College in 1980 and interning at Crozer-Chester Medical Center. He specializes in cataract surgery.

“I have always enjoyed being in a teaching institution such as Wills,” Bailey says. “Having contact with the residents and medical students is important to me. I want to give back something for the years that people helped me.”

One of Bailey's goals is to expose ophthalmology residents to the growing network of Wills Surgery Centers around the tristate area. “A lot more primary eye care goes on at the centers than in the hospital,” he says. “Over time the residents are going to be integrated more into that experience. They may also spend time one-on-one with CPEC physicians in their private offices. One of the real pluses of Wills is the depth of talented physicians to which residents are exposed.”

Bailey, a biology graduate, says he returns to Lafayette for football games and remains involved with his fraternity, Zeta Psi. His father is Robert S. Bailey '50.
