“We work with customers in many industries–manufacturing, pharmaceutical, security, banking, entertainment, education–we learn about these fields and develop custom software solutions to address precise business needs,” says Ted Rosenberger ’88, cofounder and CEO of Target Software. Founded in 1991 and based in Allentown, Pa., the company has enjoyed steady growth and profitability.

Target Software’s biggest score to date is a multiyear contract to provide pharmaceutical sales force automation software that runs on pocket-sized PDAs.

Previously Rosenberger worked for Air Products. A computer science graduate, his most memorable classes were taught by Carolynn Van Dyke, who “helped stimulate my interest in the human side of the software user experience,” and James Schwar, whose teaching style helped Rosenberger “master deep fundamentals.”

An independent study with Chester Salwach also had lasting importance. “I developed a program to solve Rubik’s Cube and animate it on the screen,” says Rosenberger. “I demonstrated it in several job interviews, and I’m still proud of it.”
