The leaves are changing on campus just in time for Homecoming this Saturday, Oct. 19. Come back to campus to enjoy the festivities. Special activities are planned for young alumni and alumni children, and several classes are planning mini-reunions. (For details see http://www.lafayetteexperience.com/alumni/news/homecoming_2002.html ) Oechsle Hall, the new home for psychology and neuroscience in the former Alumni Memorial Gym, will be dedicated this Friday. And start making plans now to join us in Easton or at a telecast party for “The Game” Nov. 23.

BALAN ’03 SECOND STUDENT IN TWO YEARS TO WIN MICROSOFT SCHOLARSHIP
Alex Balan ’03 is one of only ten undergraduates nationally to win a Microsoft Scholarship Award, recognizing him as one of the very top computer science students in the United States. He is the second Lafayette student in two years to receive the award. Balan, who is earning a B.S. in computer science and A.B. in mathematics-economics, has a 4.0 grade point average.

OECHSLE HALL NEW HOME FOR PSYCHOLOGY AND NEUROSCIENCE
Oechsle Hall will be dedicated Friday, Oct. 18. The 45,000-square-foot facility for psychology and neuroscience is named for Christa and Walter Oecshle ’57 and includes classrooms, teaching and research laboratories, and faculty offices.

SPEECH AT LAFAYETTE ON C-SPAN2’S “BOOK-TV”
A talk on campus by Harlow Giles Unger, author of “Lafayette,” a new biography of the Marquis de Lafayette published last month, will be seen nationally on C-Span2’s “Book TV” Saturday, Oct. 19 at 8 p.m. and Sunday, Oct. 20 at 11 p.m.

COME BACK FOR HOMECOMING THIS WEEKEND
Celebrate Homecoming at the new Pfenning Alumni Center beginning at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 19. Enjoy a complimentary luncheon on Bourger Plaza overlooking Fisher Field, with children’s and individual class activities. The band Tar Beach will play for young alumni on the Kirby House patio 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Lafayette vs. Georgetown kicks off at 1:30 p.m.

HOCKEY SETS PATRIOT LEAGUE RECORD WITH 12 STRAIGHT WINS
Field hockey (12-2, 3-0) has rewritten the Patriot League record books with a 3-2 double overtime victory against Delaware Oct. 15. Lafayette’s 12th straight win breaks the school and Patriot League record for consecutive victories of 11 set by the 1999 Leopards. The team is going for an unprecedented 7th Patriot League Championship.

MEN’S AND WOMEN’S TENNIS TEAMS UNDEFEATED
Men’s and women’s tennis teams, both coached by Barb Young, are undefeated this fall. Men finished the season 7-0 and women are 6-0 with one game left to play. Women’s tennis:

FOOTBALL UNDEFEATED IN PATRIOT LEAGUE
The Leopards (3-3) are undefeated in Patriot League play and off to their best start since 1996. Fordham is the only other team undefeated in Patriot League action. Georgetown visits Easton for the first time this Saturday, Oct. 19. The game will be broadcast on the Internet (www.lafayette.edu) and on Lafayette Sports Network (RCN-4 and WBPH-60) and WEST-AM 1400.

FAMILY WEEKEND COOKBOOK A SWEET SUCCESS; ORDER YOUR COPY
A cookbook containing 176 recipes from parents, faculty and staff members was the result of Lafayette’s first Family Weekend Dessert Bake-Off. Students sampled the eight dessert semi-finalists in the dining halls and voted for the best. Enjoy favorite family recipes by purchasing a cookbook for your home or as a gift.

LAFAYETTE-LEHIGH FOOTBALL NOV. 23; TELECASTS PLANNED
The 138th meeting of Lafayette and Lehigh, the nation’s most-played football rivalry, will be Nov. 23 at Fisher Field. Kickoff is at 12:30 p.m. Can’t make it to the game? Join alumni, parents, and friends at a telecast party in your area. Last year we hosted 50 telecast parties across the nation. As telecast sites are confirmed, they will be posted on the alumni web site.

ALUMNI KILLINGTON SKI TRIP SET FOR FEBRUARY 7-8
Join alumni in Killington, Vt. for the annual ski trip Feb. 7-8, 2003. The weekend includes Friday and Saturday night lodging at Trail Creek Condominiums, lift tickets, Friday and Saturday dinner, and time to relax and enjoy the company of alumni and friends.
