Fall 2002 phonathons are off to a great start, with five events in Sept. and Oct. raising $186,000 to support programs at Lafayette including student financial aid. Regional phonathons bring alumni, parents and friends together to share current news about the College, rekindle friendships, and assist the Annual Fund in soliciting gifts for Lafayette. The final fall phonathon will be held Dec. 5 in Washington, D.C., chaired by Sue Carras ’76.

The New York City phonathon on October 29 raised $15,855. Robert T. Burns ’63 chaired the event at the Williams Club with 60 pledges and a record number of 22 credit cards. Callers included six callers from the Class of 1993: Terrence I. Brill, Gregory T. Dennison, Alexis Belladonna King, Rebecca J. Nelson, Jennifer Kelleher Tamis, and Mimi Moriarity MacLean. Other volunteers included Cara Elisabeth Belardi ‘02, Norman Browning ’73, Jonathan A. Conner ’88, Mark L. Kahn ’83, David R. Rose, Jr. ‘88, M. Alden Siegel ‘60, and Brett Underwood ‘98.

The Lafayette College phonathon was held October 22 and raised $35,605 with 53 pledges. Dan Cohen ’65 served as chair for the event. Volunteers from the area included George Beres ’00, Brian Cort ’99, Kit Green ’56, Howard Heller ’65, Melinda Kraus ’78, Nelson Markley ’62, Laurie Samet ’79 and Richard Schwan ’62. The evening kicked off with a dinner with alumni and members of the senior class fund drive committee. Gary A. Evans ’57, vice president of development and college relations, and President Arthur J. Rothkopf ’55 spoke at the dinner. Students and alumni enjoyed being together and hearing the importance of giving back to Lafayette.

Mark Weisburger ’55 was chair of the Westchester/Fairfield area phonathon, which was held on September 24 at B.D. & A Weisburger Inc., White Plains, NY. It was a huge success raising over $82,000. A loyal and devoted volunteer group that comes to Westchester year after year volunteered again that evening. Included were: Ed Elbert ’55, Drew Bisset ’67, Roy Raizen ’52, Richard Grossman ’64, Richard Tait ’52, Charlie Daniel ’80, and Melynda Holmes ’78.

Tom Padilla ’78 was host of the Philadelphia suburb phonathon on October 2 at Wachovia Securities, Berwyn, PA. In attendance that evening to help support Lafayette were Ellen Weiler ’83, Beth Ganss ’80, John Kinard ’52, Neil Alexander ’56, and Ed Auble ’61. The group raised $14,590.

Bob Sell ’84 chaired the Central New Jersey phonathon October 8 at Accenture, Florham Park, N.J. A great night of calling raised a total of $38,001. Alumni callers included Bruce Dickerson ’51, Hank Kohlenberger ’51, Melinda Kraus ’78, Jim Sandford ’57, Michael Saffer ’77, Kit Greene ’56, and Matt Julin ’01.
