Two students who organized an auction fund-raiser will present a $500 check to the Safe Harbor homeless shelter this week.

Rachael Blackman, a junior neuroscience major from Warwick, R.I., and Robyn Appel, a sophomore psychology major from West Wyoming, Pa., planned the event on behalf of Lafayette’s Hillel Society.

Goods and services were auctioned Saturday in the snack bar of Farinon College Center. Students bid on items such as desserts, dinners, dance lessons, movie and skiing tickets, and artwork.

“Hillel could not have raised so much money without the other organizations and personal donations,” says Blackman.

Those contributing auction items included Elizabeth McMahon, professor of mathematics; Robert Weiner, Thomas Roy and Lura Forrest Jones Professor of History and Hillel adviser; Nicole Maynard, visiting part-time instructor of art; Donald Zaroda, Public Safety dispatcher; Kristen Gibbons ’04; Alpha Gamma Delta sorority; Pi Phi sorority; Hillel Society; Muslim Students Association; Lafayette Asian and Caribbean Students Association; Cadence, Lafayette’s female a cappella group; Lafayette Activities Forum; Questioning Established Sexual Taboos; CHILL (Creating a Harmonious, Interesting, and Livable Lafayette); and Bailey Health Center.
