A veteran in the cement, concrete, and aggregate industry, George Hossenlopp ’65 has been promoted to president of Florida Concrete Group and vice-president of Florida Rock. After beginning his career at Lehigh Cement Company in 1966, he joined Florida Rock in 1980, serving first as sales manager, then as president of Virginia Concrete, a division of Florida Rock. Later Hossenlopp moved to Central Virginia and became president of three divisions: Tidewater, Saddler, and Custom Concrete. He was named executive vice president of the Florida Concrete Group in 2000.

Hossenlopp is past president and long-time board member of Virginia Redi-Mix Concrete Association, and past president, treasurer, and national board member of Florida Concrete and Products Association, among other professional affiliations. He is also a member of the executive board of Florida Council of Boy Scouts of America.

A government and law graduate, Hossenlopp was a campus leader. “The student activity I’m most proud of was being captain of the baseball team–the last Lafayette team to go to the College World Series. I was co-captain of the football team, and we were awful,” he says. “The person who really impacted me at Lafayette was our baseball coach, Charlie Gelbert, who was an incredibly successful coach and a former professional baseball player. He always treated his baseball players like athletes and taught us to prepare just as hard as we played in games. It was that preparation and thought process that I’ve carried through in life.”

Hossenlopp is the brother of John Hossenlopp ’61.
