As the new vice president of business development for the United States for Monster, the leading global careers web site, Bob Van Olst ’69 works with the sales team to develop and strengthen relationships at the executive level within Fortune 1000 companies, and further enhance customer-focused services.

Van Olst says many people don’t realize the extent of services Monster can provide. “We can help businesses enhance the internal mobility of their employees, thus retaining key employees,” he says. “We’re also able to help with searches to add diversity to the workforce. And the range of people who can be hired through Monster extends from the intern to the CEO.” Before joining Monster, Van Olst ran his own executive search practice, RVO Search.

An English graduate, Van Olst served as a captain in the U.S. Army after graduation and holds a master’s in human resources from New School for Social Research.

“Professor Morrison Handsaker taught a course in labor relations at Lafayette, and he was one of the most fascinating faculty members on campus,” Van Olst says. “When he wasn’t teaching he was involved with labor arbitration, and brought real-life case studies into his classes. He sparked my interest in the field of human resources.”
