The Christian Science Monitor includes several quotes by Ed Kerns, Eugene H. Clapp ’36 Professor of Art and director of the Williams Visual Arts Building, in an article today on the trend toward collaboration in art. “At Lafayette College, Professor Kerns designed the studio art curriculum around collaborating with professionals, including such visiting art stars as Frank Stella, Elizabeth Murray, and Faith Ringgold,” the article states. “Art majors as well as students from local schools and city residents participate. ‘The community aspect is terrific,’ Kerns says. Participants learn ‘art is an experiential moment’ – not the exclusive purview of the elite.” An article on how Phillipsburg High School students are benefiting from this studio art outreach is available on Lafayette’s web site.
Today’s edition of The Express-Times reported on the publication of the key papers on income redistribution and policy written by Harold M. Hochman, William E. Simon Professor of Political Economy. An article on the book is available on Lafayette’s web site.
The Express-Times also summarized the grant awarded to James K. Ferri, assistant professor of chemical engineering, by Max Planck Institut für Kolloid und Grenzflächenforschung (MPIKG) in Golm-Potsdam, Germany, to continue his research there this month. An article in today’s Morning Call about scholarships given by area colleges to Latinos noted that Lafayette will provide two need-based scholarships for Latinos in the upcoming school year.
