The Ice Hockey Club will shoot for its third consecutive Delaware Valley Collegiate Hockey Conference title this weekend in a best-of-three playoff series against Temple at Flyers Skate Zone in northeast Philadelphia.

Tickets cost $3. The games will take place 8:55 p.m. tonight, 7:45 p.m. tomorrow, and, if necessary, 4:15 p.m. Sunday

The team finished the regular season ranked #11 in the Northeast division of the American Collegiate Hockey Association with a record of 15 wins, six losses, and one tie.

The Leopards advanced to the finals with a 7-6 win over St. Joseph’s last weekend. Lafayette struggled in the opening period and trailed 2-1 going into the first intermission. The second period started with a powerplay goal by biology major Pete McLane ’04 (Stowe, Ver.) and another tally just 30 seconds later by art and English double major Ted Kapusta ’03 (Concord, N.H.). Government and law major Matt Haddad ’05 (Leonardo, N.J.) scored one minute later to give the Leopards a 4-2 lead. The teams swapped goals for the rest of the second period, and McLane quickly put the Leopards up by three with a shorthanded goal seconds into the third period. Led by a hat trick from McLane and two goals from Haddad, the team held off a late charge by St. Joseph’s to take the victory. Mark Battaglia ’06 (Wallingford, Pa.) also scored and Steve Keen ’06 (Shaker Heights, Ohio) made 24 stops in net.
