Students inspired by the recent campus presentation given by HIV/AIDS educator Rebecca Armstrong are encouraged to join HAPEN (HIV/AIDS Prevention and Education Now).

Coordinated through the Landis Community Outreach Center, HAPEN is a volunteer program involving Lafayette students in a variety of outreach programs for teenagers from Easton and the surrounding communities. All volunteers receive extensive training to teach middle and high school students the facts about HIV/AIDS. Classroom visits require volunteers who feel comfortable speaking in front of groups.

Volunteers who want to get involved in ways other than speaking can assist with fundraisers for surrounding AIDS outreach programs and planning activities related to World AIDS Day in early December. HAPEN also coordinates a bi-annual blood drive along with Student Government.

For more information, contact Elissa Molloy ’05 (Troy, Mich.), program coordinator.
