Five students have each won a pair of tickets to the Sing-Along Sound of Music at the State Theatre in downtown Easton: psychology major Omoniyi Adekanmbi ’04 (New Carrollton, Md.), history major Steve Schrum ’05 (Flanders, N.J.), Caryn Donohue ’06 (Garden City, N.Y.), Debra Gilkerson ’06 (Albany, Calif.), and Meredith White ’06 (Andover, Mass.). The movie, complete with subtitled musical numbers, a costume contest, and instructions (“boo the Nazis,” “cheer for Maria”), will be shown in full-screen Technicolor 7:30 p.m. Sunday.

Other students interested in the arts can take advantage of off-campus trips this weekend to Southside Bethlehem and New York City. Arts-related activities on campus include peer education through drama, two different student plays, screenings of Analyze That, and a Jazz Jam.

Lafayette Arts Society is sponsoring its fourth trip of the school year to First Friday in Southside Bethlehem tomorrow. This monthly event, sponsored by the Banana Factory, an art gallery and artists’ studio, features art, entertainment, and food in the South Bethlehem area.

The Banana Factory is hosting a reception for three exhibitions: The Works of Lawrence Namoki, Hopi Potter; The Photogravures of Edward S. Curtis; and the juried South Bethlehem Photography Exhibition. It also is showcasing works by this month’s featured artists, painter Katie Behler and stained glass artists Linny Fowler and Octavio Pena. Other galleries and shops will offer music, exhibitions, and food.

Amanda Lyons ’03 (Oreland, Pa.), a double major in art and English, will drive a mini-van to the event. Those who want to go should meet 5:45 p.m. tomorrow at the Williams Center for the Arts and plan to be back around 9 p.m. For more information, email Lyons at lyonsa or call her at (610) 438-1840.

Tickets are still available at the Williams Center box office for the art department’s trip to the Metropolitan Museum of Art Saturday. They cost $5, or $4 for Arts Society members. The bus will leave the Williams Center promptly at 8:30 a.m. and leave New York promptly at 4 p.m. Museum admission ($4) and lunch are not included.

The drama group Played Out will meet noon-12:50 p.m. today in Farinon Center room 211. Pizza will be provided. Students who enjoy drama, but don’t have time to be part of a full production, are invited to learn about the group. Played Out creates and performs pieces to educate peers about important topics such as relationships, stress, eating disorders, etc. at first-year orientation and other campus events.

Lafayette Activities Forum is screening the film Analyze That in the Farinon Center’s Limburg Theater 7 and 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 10 p.m. Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday. Admission is $2 or free for students accompanied by their residence adviser.

The Marquis Players will present their 18th annual production for charity with a staging of the musical comedy Sugar April 4-6 in the Williams Center for the Arts (see related story). Sugar, a musical adaptation of the Marilyn Monroe blockbuster Some Like it Hot, made its debut on Broadway in 1972. The play will be performed 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 3 p.m. Sunday. Tickets cost $5 and may be purchased in the Chaplain’s Office, 105 Hogg Hall, or at the Marquis Players table in Farinon College Center between noon and 1 p.m. Call 610-330-5320 for more information.

A repeat performance of George C. Wolfe’s The Colored Museum, which was presented in the Farinon Center Atrium during Black History Month, will be given at the same location 3 p.m. Saturday. The student-directed satire “pokes fun at social, economic, and political stigmatizations dealing with the -isms and the –chisms.”

The return of the Arts Society’s Jazz Jam is set for 10:30 p.m. Saturday at 626 Parsons Street. The house is equipped with a piano, drum kit, amplifiers, and sheet music; instrumentalists, singers, and listeners are all welcome.
