Can a non-fraternity in the men’s Greek division grab the 2002-03 McGaughey Trophy?

Hoping to pull off that surprising feat, the Process team has lengthened its lead over FIJI in the intramural standings, 550-470. Bolstered by its second bowling championship in two years, Brothers of Lafayette sits in third place with 422 points. The women’s Greek division is led by Tri-Delt (526), Alpha Gamma Delta (479), and Alpha Phi (459), respectively.

Keefe Hall maintains healthy leads of more than 100 points in the men’s and women’s residence hall divisions. Complete McGaughey Trophy standings are listed at the bottom of this article.

In the regular season of the women’s indoor soccer tournament, The Divas went undefeated in all five games, followed by NO Styx at 4-1 and Washed Up Athletes at 3-2. In the men’s league, Fredo and KDR A were undefeated in four match-ups, and Tea Money had four wins and one tie. Playoff results for soccer and other events will be reported in a future intramural article.

The Sparks team led the field in the women’s field hockey regular season with a 7-1-1 record, followed by Destruitas at 6-1-1, Kappa Kappa Gamma at 5-3, and Tri-Delt at 4-3-1. Chi Phi and Rusty Trombones topped the men’s division at 6-0, with FIJI and Zeta Psi falling just once in six games.

In a rematch of last year’s men’s bowling championship, Brothers of Lafayette again squeaked out a victory over the independent Pocket Pounders, this time by just two pins, 672-670. The champions won by one pin last year. Both teams finished the regular season with perfect 5-0 records. The Brothers of Lafayette team, Dynasty II, was comprised of MVP George Taylor, Sidney Gantt, Ronald Hinton, and Adam Foltz. Chi Phi and Process tied for third place.

On the women’s side, Tri-Delt overcame a 3-3 regular season to upset last year’s winners, AGD, as Laney Wyatt, Megan Vacca, Debbie Katchen, and Katie Barillas took home the gold. Keefe Hall, which went undefeated in the regular season, finished third along with another AGD team.

More than 100 students competed in the men’s and women’s bowling tournaments, hosted by Two Pins Alley in Phillipsburg, N.J., on Wednesdays from Feb. 26 through March 26.

Tri-Delt out-muscled P.T. Farinon in the women’s Tug of War contest, held March 28 adjacent to Sullivan Lane. Team members were Shana Merrill, Jess Whitman, Kate McGee, and Vanessa Greaves. Among the men, Keefe Hall downed P.T. Farinon, using the strength of Trent Mohney, Roy Manney, Brett Grossman, and Adam Donnelly.

Delta Upsilon Subpar suffered a 18-0 drubbing by the independent team Hot Carls in the first game of the 4-on-4 flag football finals, then scored once in the championship game while wrapping up its own shutout in the waning minutes of daylight. Dave Donovan, Chris Hannan, Derek Strauss, and Robbie Andrews represented DU. Ol’ Skool (Watson Hall) finished in third place. The 13-team tournament took place on the Quad March 24-25.
