Recreation Services hosted its first Midnight Mountaineering event 11:30 p.m. Friday through 2 a.m. Saturday at the Kirby Sports Center climbing wall.

The free activity was organized by climbing wall supervisors to generate interest in climbing and provide a late-night alternative event. It was part of a full schedule of weekend activities at Lafayette.

Participants were encouraged to bring a CD for background music, as well as a beanbag chair or Crazy Creek chair for reclining while taking a break.

Healthy food such as fresh fruit and vegetables, trail mix, and Gatorade were provided. Climbing games such reduced lighting climbs and Add One were played.

Those who had not taken the belay course were allowed to attend; staff were on hand to belay.
