Neo A. Antoniades, visiting research associate at Columbia University, will speak on “Engineering Metropolitan Area Fiber Optic Communication Networks” noon today in Acopian Engineering Center room 500.

Sponsored by the electrical and computer engineering department, the talk is open to the campus community. Free pizza will be provided.

Antoniades is based at Columbia’s Center for Resilient Networks. The program focuses on researching and prototyping regional networking that serves the needs of emergency workers, public officials, and citizens during natural and man-made emergencies.

In other department news, the student chapter of Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers will hold elections for officers noon Friday in Acopian Engineering Center room 300.

All electrical and computer engineering majors are encouraged to attend. Free pizza will be provided.
