Chi Phi fraternity and Alpha Phi sorority are holding a tennis tournament to benefit victims of Lymphangioleiomyomatosis (LAM), a degenerative lung disease that affects only women, Saturday morning at the Sullivan Lane courts.

Singles and doubles matches will be played 10 a.m.-2 p.m. The cost to participate is $10 for the Lafayette community and $15 for the public, which covers a T-shirt and entry in the tournament and a barbecue that day. Registration will be held today through Friday in the Farinon Center and at the courts Saturday. There is no rain date for the fundraiser.

All proceeds will be given to the LAM Foundation. Founded in 1995, the organization provides support and education to women with LAM, a progressive, debilitating lung disease.

“There is no known cure, and the foundation is relatively small,” notes event organizer Ryan Shaffer ’03, a government and law major from Morris Plains, N.J. “We found out about it because one of Chi Phi’s brothers has an aunt with the disease. Thus, this charity has personal significance to all of the people running the tournament.”

Donations can be made through checks written to the LAM Foundation and sent to The Chi Phi Fraternity, Farinon Center Box 9448, Lafayette College, Easton, PA 18042.
