Todd Brewer ’06 (New Castle, Del.) presented an acoustic guitar concert 10 p.m. Saturday at Gilbert’s.
The free event was sponsored by Lafayette Activities Forum.
“He writes great music,” says math major Kate Robbins ’05 (Wilbraham, Mass.), co-chair of Gilbert’s programming for LAF along with Simmone Chaddan ’04 (Springfield, Mass.), a double major in English and government & law. “It’s very mellow.”
The concert was part of an effort by LAF to feature student performers.
“We’re trying to present programs where we can show the talent on campus, rather than bringing in outside bands,” says Robbins. “Next year we want to have an open mic more often, maybe once a month.”
Brewer approached LAF about giving a concert and provided a copy of his own CD. Students will be encouraged next year to express interest in performing.
Gilbert’s also hosted final projects of the Performance Art theater course taught by Suzanne Westfall, professor of English, 4 p.m. Friday. Each student brought a script to perform at the workshop, rather than acting within a group project.
Two student a cappella groups founded this school year performed there 8:30 p.m. Tuesday. Quintessence is a singing jazz quintet and Soulfege is a mixed vocal ensemble.
