Balestrieri comes into big bucks

In June, Anthony Balestrieri ’85 became senior managing director and portfolio manager in PPM America’s public fixed-income/portfolio management group. He manages PPMA’s life fund, which includes about $15 billion in assets. Previously, Balestrieri managed $16 billion in institutional fixed income assets for Merrill Lynch Investment Managers.

Headquartered in Chicago, PPMA provides investment management services to

Prudential affiliates and clients. PPMA manages about $62.5 billion in assets for insurance companies, mutual funds, pension funds, and unit trusts, among other clients.

“Our clients will benefit greatly from Anthony’s talent and extensive experience in managing fixed income assets,” said Brion Johnson, executive vice president.

Throughout his career, Balestrieri has worked for a number of financial services

organizations, gaining experience in asset management, investment product design, and sales. Prior to Merrill Lynch, he served as senior vice president, short-term

strategies group for Mitchell Hutchins Asset Management, where he directed portfolio

management and trading activities. Balestrieri has also worked as a portfolio manager for Bankers Trust Company and as an investment analyst and account executive for Metropolitan Life.

He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree with a dual major in economics/business and government/law from Lafayette.
