Mark Beisler ’06 (Round Hill, Va.) gained practical experience in his major this summer by working with UBS Financial Services, a financial investment firm in Washington, D.C.
Beisler, an economics and business major, prepared proposals, reviews, asset allocation charts, and income schedules; researched stocks and mutual funds; and contacted clients.
“Mark was an excellent intern at UBS this summer,” says Barry Haffner, senior vice president of investments at UBS. “I honestly believe he was the best intern that ever worked for me.”
“I decided to do the internship because I thought it would be something different and a great learning experience,” Beisler says. “I gained a lot of knowledge of the ‘real’ business world, such as what it’s like to work in a major company’s office.”
Haffner was particularly impressed with Beisler’s work ethic.
“He was always on time and always looked for more work after he had completed his task,” he says. “He was always well-prepared.”
“Mark will be very successful in the business world. He would be a positive addition to any organization,” Haffner adds. “I have never had any other interns from Lafayette, but if they would be half as valuable as Mark, I would hire them in a second.”
“Lafayette did a great job preparing me for my internship, especially with the Gateway Program,” Beisler says.
Gateway pairs students with professional career advisers and encourages a step-by-step, year-by-year program to prepare students for employment, graduate school, and other career options.
He notes that Lafayette’s academics are strong and chock full of opportunities. “It is a fantastic learning environment,” he says.
Outside academics, Beisler plays intramural sports and is pledging Zeta Psi fraternity. He is a graduate of Ridgewood High School.
