Working this summer as production assistant for the A&E show “All Year Round with Katie Brown,” Ted Kramer ’05 (Harrison, N.Y.) says his opportunities were limitless.

“The experience I gained was invaluable. I was able to sit with the writers, producers and basic set workers,” he says. “I wanted to see how the final product, the show, actually came to be and I wanted to be a part of it.”

Kramer, a double major in English and history, earned academic credit while working this summer at Atlas Media Productions, New York, N.Y., a private television production company that pitches shows to cable television networks such as the Food Network, A&E, and the Outdoor Life Network.

“I wanted to do the internship because I have always had great interest in both movies and television,” says Kramer, a member of the Patriot League academic honor roll in both of his seasons on the varsity baseball team. “Ever since high school I had been interested in writing and even did some acting in school plays. The best part of the internship was that I received a credit on the show as a production assistant,” he said.

“Ted was a very enthusiastic worker in everything he did,” says Kramer’s internship supervisor, David Mettler. “He was always willing to perform any tasks given to him, no mater how tedious or interesting.”

“He did a great job with us,” says Mettler, executive assistant to the president at Atlas. “Everything was great.”

Kramer notes that his mother earned a master’s in film and communications and teaches English and film studies.

The door to this internship was opened at Lafayette, he says.

“Not only did my interest in writing lead me towards this internship, but it also opened up areas, such as direction and production, which I never thought I would have interest in,” Kramer says. “My majors not only provided me with the ability to write, but also with the capability of analytical thought.”

“In my mind,” he continues, “this enables the creative spirit to work at peak performance.”

Kramer is quick to credit Lafayette’s academic environment as having a huge impact on him.

“Personally, I love the history and English departments,” he says. “They are headed by two excellent professors and they both aim to provide focused, yet well rounded courses. I feel that both of my advisors sincerely care about my academic future…”

“It is very advantageous to be a history and English major at Lafayette,” he adds. “Not only are the classes well-sized, but teachers go out of their way to make students comfortable with the material and their comprehension of it.”

Kramer is a graduate of the Hackley School.
