The McKelvy House Scholars are sponsoring a “soap box” forum for the Lafayette community at noon today on the Quad.

The opportunity will be open for anyone to express their views at the microphone on a topic of their choice for five minutes.

“The manner and content of speech is entirely up to the individual, and those in the audience are asked to listen actively (but respectfully), and, of course, to respond in kind if they so desire,” says McKelvy Scholar Creighton Conner ’04.

The event is being organized by McKelvy Scholar Briana Niblick ’05, who arranged the format and handled advertising along with fellow Scholar Tim Bragdon ’04.

“This is a chance for anyone on campus to speak his or her mind about any topic, while audience members listen attentively,” says Niblick. “An open-air forum, such as this, is not a common occurrence at Lafayette, so it’s best to take advantage of the opportunity today.”
