Campus activities this weekend include a trip to the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, a celebration of Deepawali, performances of Little Shop of Horrors, screenings of Pirates of the Caribbean, a chili cook-off, an Ultimate Frisbee Tournament, and football, field hockey, and volleyball action.

About two dozen tickets are available for the art department’s bus trip Saturday to the Metropolitan Museum of Art.Tickets cost $4 for Arts Society members and $5 for non-members. Museum admission is $7 and lunch is not included. The bus will leave the Williams Center for the Arts at 9 a.m. sharp and leave New York at 4 p.m. Tickets can be purchased at the Williams Center box office noon-2 p.m. and 4-5 p.m. today and tomorrow.

A noon discussion at Hogg Hall and afternoon expo in the Farinon Center will mark the ancient Hindu festival of Deepawali Friday. Both events are free and open to the campus community. The exposition will be held 4:30-7:30 p.m. and will include Indian food, snacks, and drinks; rangoli patterns; henna tattoos; and fireworks.

The volleyball team will take on Bucknell 7 p.m. Friday and Colgate 5 p.m. Saturday at Kirby Sports Center. The squad lost a heartbreaker to Fairleigh Dickinson 3-2 (30-25, 26-30, 23-30, 30-25, 12-15) in a non-conference match up in Teaneck, N.J., last night.

The College Theater production of Little Shop of Horrors will continue 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday at the Williams Center for the Arts. One of the longest-running off-Broadway shows of all time, the rock ‘n’ roll spoof of 1950s sci-fi movies features a nerdy floral assistant, a Donna Reed “wannabe,” and an exotic plant that craves fresh blood. Tickets cost $6 and can be purchased at the box office.

Lafayette Activities Forum is screening the film Pirates of the Caribbean in the Farinon Center’s Limburg Theater 7 and 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 10 p.m. Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday. Admission is $2.

The Grave Cowboys, a four-person rock band from Bucks County, will give a free concert at Gilbert’s 11 p.m. Friday. Free nachos and drinks will be awarded to the student with the best Halloween costume.

The inaugural Lafayette Football Chili Cook-Off will take place 11 a.m. Saturday at Fisher Field before the team’s 12:30 p.m. Patriot League match-up with 12th-ranked Colgate. The taste testing and voting for all fans in attendance will take place on the plaza in front of the Kirby Sports Center atrium. Local restaurants scheduled to participate include Almond Tree Manor, the Bluetone Cafe, Larry Holmes’ Ringside Restaurant, Hartman’s II, and Tastebudz. Tickets to the game and cook-off are free for students with Lafayette ID and otherwise cost $8 for adults and $5 for children.

The men’s and women’s cross country teams will host the Patriot League Championship Saturday at the Metzgar Field Course. The men’s race will kick off the festivities at 11 a.m., while the women’s race will commence at noon.

The field hockey team will take on Fairfield 2 p.m. Saturday at Rappolt Field. Last Saturday, Jennifer Stone ’04 (Newtown, Pa.), a double major in art and economics & business, recorded her fourth hat trick of the season in a 5-1 victory over Patriot League archrival Lehigh.

The women’s soccer team will wrap up its season 2 p.m. Saturday at Metzgar Field. The Leopards outshot Army, 8-2, in the first half of their game last Friday, but lost 2-0.

The Lafayette Ultimate Frisbee Club, nicknamed “Aflicktion,” will host a Halloween Tournament 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Sunday. Games will take place at the intramural fields on Newlins Road and on the Rugby Pit at Metzger Field. Competing schools will be Dickinson College, University of Scranton, Muhlenburg College, and East Stroudsburg University.
