Soulfege and The Chorduroys, Lafayette’s mixed and male a cappella singing groups, respectively, will perform a free concert 8 p.m. tomorrow at Gilbert’s.

“With the booming popularity of a cappella groups here at Lafayette, it’s no surprise that groups aren’t simply sharing concerts, but members as well,” says Soulfege member Dave Castelletti ’05, a music major from Martin’s Creek, Pa. “Now the campus community is able to hear several concerts at the semester’s end when the musicians aren’t only performing their old material more naturally, but are unveiling songs which the campus has yet to hear — from them anyway. And who couldn’t use some uplifting a cappella to juxtapose the ominous pre-finals weekend?”

Soulfege will open for The Chorduroys. The Soulfege lineup: Danielle Charych ’05, Amanda Driscoll ’06, Jacqui Goodwin ’06, Cameron Hodgkins ’07, Lisa Oliveri ’04, Toni Regan ’05, Ashlee Snyder ’05, Danielle Wyckoff ’06, Dave Castelletti ’05, Tom Ercolano ’07, Ben Flath ’07, James Garton ’06, Greg Lapp ’06, Jeff Lininger ’07, and Mike McFadden ’04.

The group will perform the songs “Moondance,” “Lullabye,” “Soul to Squeeze,” “Let it Be,” and a Jackson 5 medley.

The Chorduroys lineup: Joe Benoit ’04, Creighton Conner ’04, Jeremy Deaner ’04, Ben Flath ’07, Greg Lapp ’06, Jeff Lininger ’07, Rob McEwen ’05, Varun Mehta ’06, James “J Kanackus” Melachrinos ’07, Dave Mitchell ’05, Matt Roy ’07, Jason Salisbury ’04, and Andrew Segan ’05.

Among other songs, the men will sing “Rain,” “Underground,” “What It Takes,” and “Istanbul Not Constantinople.”

The Chorduroys have advanced to the quarterfinals of the International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella, which will be hosted Jan. 31 by the University of Pennsylvania. The group also competed in the quarterfinals last year (see related story).

Soulfege was founded last school year by psychology major Lisa Oliveri ’04 (Oradell, N.J.).

Quintessence, a jazz a cappella group founded last year by music and economics & business double major Dave Mitchell ’05 (Bear Creek, Pa.), performed at Gilbert’s yesterday.
