RAMSAY ’04 AWARDED NCAA POSTGRADUATE SCHOLARSHIP
Soccer standout Meghan Ramsey ’04 has recieved a $7,500 postgraduate scholarship from the NCAA. A neuroscience major with a 3.92 grade-point average, she plans to attend medical school after graduation.

ROTH ’04 RECEIVES JACOB K. JAVITS FELLOWSHIP
A Marquis Scholar with two majors, philosophy and an individualized, interdisciplinary major in Women’s Studies, Roth will pursue a Ph.D. in philosophy.

STUDENTS TO PRESENT WORK AT NATIONAL UNDERGRADUATE RESEARCH CONFERENCE
More than 40 students have been invited to present research April 15-17 at the 18th annual National Conference on Undergraduate Research. This year’s contingent brings to nearly 450 the number of Lafayette participants through the years. The topics range from the humanist to the technical.

FIELD HOCKEY HONORED FOR ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT
The field hockey team as well as 10 individual players were honored by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association for academic achievement for 2003-04 fall semester. Jenna Bratz ’06 led the team, earning a perfect GPA in mathematics.

RELIGIOUS STUDIES HOSTS FULBRIGHT VISITING SPECIALIST FROM MOROCCO

HADDAD ’06 CONDUCTS EXPERIMENTS DURING EXTERNSHIP
During a January externship, Daniel Haddad ’06 shadowed Perrin Wilson ’00, who is in the fourth year of her work toward a Ph.D. in developmental neurobiology at Rockefeller University. He was among about 200 students who gained firsthand knowledge of the professional world in January through volunteer alumni and parent hosts.

SIX FINALISTS CHOSEN FOR “LAFAYETTE IDOL”
Six finalists chosen for the Lafayette Idol competition will vie for cash prizes March 27 and be judged by professional talent agents. They are Toni Ahrens ’05, Lisa Oliveri ’04, Alexis Siemons ’05, Pavlos Lykos ’04, Caryn Donohue ’06, and Michael McFadden ’04.

MULLARKEY ’04 SELECTED BY PHILADELPHIA KIXX SOCCER TEAM
Senior forward Jamie Mullarkey was drafted in the second round of the 2004 Major Indoor Soccer League draft by the Philadelphia Kixx and was the 26th overall pick. He led the Leopards in points (24), goals (8), and assists (8) in 2003 and ranked first in the Patriot League in assists, second in points, and third in goals.

BASEBALL DEBUTS AT CLASS OF 1978 STADIUM WITH 17-2 WIN
The baseball team made the most of its debut at the Class of 1978 Stadium on Wednesday, cranking out 18 hits en route to a 17-2 win over Franklin and Marshall. The team is in California for a seven-game stretch over spring break.

VAN GORP ’04 AWARDED AT EUROPEAN UNION SIMULATION
Johan Van Gorp ’04 earned a major award for the second straight year, and 14 students participated in the annual European Union Simulation held in Washington, D.C. Among a group of 16 undergraduates from regional colleges and universities at December’s event, Van Gorp was named Outstanding Commissioner. The prior year, he was elected Outstanding Prime Minister.

BULL ’85 NAMED MADAGASCAR PEACE CORPS DIRECTOR
In February, the U.S. Peace Corps swore in new directors for various countries around the world. Among them was William H. Bull ’85, named to head the program in Madagascar. An International Affairs major with minors in French and art, Bull has worked in African development since 1985 when he became a Peace Corps agriculture volunteer in Sierra Leone. He conducted technical training for the Peace Corps and other agencies in the U.S. and throughout West Africa. In 1999, he became associate programming country director for rural development in Gabon and moved to the same position in Madagascar in 2001.

CLASS OF 1957 BAHAMAS CRUISE/SOUTHEASTERN VACATION
A cruise set for Jan. 24-28, 2005 on Royal Caribbean’s Sovereign of the Seas from Port Canaveral, Fla., is open to all alumni and friends. Twenty members of the Class of 1957 who live in the southeast will provide housing before or after the cruise. The total cost including cabin, meals, entertainment, and all port costs/taxes/fees is $285 per person. Sixty cabins have been reserved and over half have been reserved.
