Tickets are still available for today’s O.A.R. concert at Kirby Sports Center, sponsored by Lafayette Activities Forum and Student Government.

Doors will open at 7 p.m. The entrance and ticket booth will be at the gate on Hamilton Street between Pfenning Alumni Center and Kirby Sports Center.

About 35 Lafayette students are assisting with setting up, ticket taking, etc. for the concert.

Tickets priced at $18 (plus a $1 service charge) for students, staff, and faculty will remain on sale until 4:30 p.m. at the College Store. If tickets are available at the door, they will be priced at $23 for everyone.

O.A.R, or “Of A Revolution,” has been compared to the wildly popular Dave Matthews Band because of lead vocalist and guitarist Marc Roberge’s similarity in sound to DMB’s front man. The group formed in 1998, with former junior high school classmates Roberge and Chris Culos, a drummer, bringing in Richard On, a guitarist, and Benj Gershman, a bassist.

After building a fan base through live shows across the East Coast and Midwest, O.A.R. released two albums in 2000, and added a fifth member, saxophonist Jerry DePizzo. The albums increased the popularity of the band, which finally released In Between Now And Then, its first major label album, with Atlantic Records in 2003.

The Recreation Center will close 7 p.m. today (with the doors locking at 6:30 p.m.). Between 4-7 p.m., the only available entrance to the center will be the south entrance (by Pfenning Alumni Center). The swimming pool will be closed all day.

There will be no parking on Pierce Street from Hamilton Street to Coleman Street on both sides. Parking on the west side of Hamilton will also be prohibited. All vehicles were to be moved from these areas by 10 p.m. yesterday.
