Civil engineering graduate John Pierce ’81, vice president and general manager for the Turner Interiors National Group division of Turner Construction, spoke on “Career Development in Civil Engineering” noon Friday in Acopian Engineering Center room 200. Food was provided free of charge.

Pierce took on his position at Turner Interiors in April 2002. The group specializes in tenant fit-outs, both in new and existing buildings. It operates in nine cities nationwide: Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles, Miami, New York, San Francisco, Seattle, and Washington, D.C. The New York office of Turner Interiors functions as the group’s headquarters.

Pierce serves as the liaison between Turner’s regional offices and the New York headquarters, working to enhance relationships that Turner Interiors develops with corporate and institutional clients as well as design and real estate professionals across the country. National clients for Turner Interiors include AOL/Time Warner, Bank of America, the Chubb Group, Equity Office Properties Trust, Fidelity Investments, Lehman Brothers, the McGraw-Hill Companies, Merrill Lynch, and Washington Mutual.

Pierce began his career with Turner Construction Company in 1981 as a project manager in the New York metropolitan area. In 1990, he joined Hines Interests as a project executive, responsible for various commercial real estate development projects in the New York area. Most recently, Pierce was executive director of international real estate and facilities projects for Morgan Stanley, where he managed a global team of over 100 professionals. His responsibilities encompassed land development, space planning and the supervision of design and construction for office, trading and infrastructure projects.

A member of American Society of Civil Engineers, Pierce serves on the board of directors of the New York chapter of Habitat for Humanity and the Architecture/Construction/ Engineering Mentor Program of Greater New York.
