The Public Safety Office and Easton Fire Department responded to an alarm in Hugel Science Center at 3:20 p.m. today.

It was found that pressure during a chemical distillation procedure under way in room 321 had caused the emission of a chemical byproduct. No injuries or damage occurred. The emission was fully contained in a lab fume hood.

As a precaution, the science center was evacuated at 3:30 p.m. The fire department allowed reoccupancy of the building at 5:30 p.m. Rooms 319 and 321 remain closed until cleanup of the fume hood is completed.
