The String and Wind Chamber Ensembles of this semester’s Performance Class will give a recital 7 p.m. Monday in Interfaith Chapel, Hogg Hall.

Led by director Stephanie Bell, the String Ensemble will begin the program with two selections. Teruhisa Haruguchi ’07 and Victore Fiore ’08 on violins, along with Lauren Timpson ’08 on viola and Lori Astheimer ’05 on cello, will perform “Quartet No. 3 in D Major, op.44, no.2,” by Felix Mendelssohn. Elizabeth Dethoff ’05 (violin) and Emily Fogelberg ’05 (cello) will present Franz Anton Hoffmeister’s “Duet for Violin and Cello in C Major.”

The Guitar Ensemble will present five selections: “Scarborough Fair” by Simon and Garfunkel, arranged by Ian Gammie; “Indicatif” by Luc Levesque; “Tarentelle” by Johann Kaspar Mertz, arranged by Luc Levesque; “God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen,” arranged by Bob Powell; and “Quartet in D,” by George Phillip Teleman, arranged by Elias Barreiro. Directed by Frank Flandorffer, the ensemble includes Sean Comerford ’06, Christopher Jacoby ’07, Serdar Benderli ’08, Matt Gately ’07, Dan Rosenblum ’06, and Evan Grolley ’05.

Under the direction of Susan Charlton, the Wind Chamber Ensembles will present myriad selections.

The Flute Choir will perform “Overture” from the “Nutcracker Ballet” by Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky and “The Hebrides Overture (Fingal’s Cave), op. 26,” by Felix Mendelssohn, arranged by Rick Pierce. Members of the Flute Choir are Nicole Bader ’08, Megan Conway ’06, Caroline Dawson (alto flute), Elena Dones ’07 (piccolo), Laura Fredley ’06, Jessica Goldblat ’06 (bass flute), Deirdre Maher ’08, Danielle Martin ’06 (piccolo), and Christie Morley ’06.

Members of the Clarinet Choir are Ben Doremus ’07, David Greenberg ’06, Tobias Heineck ’06 (alto clarinet), Lisa Klenn ’06 (bass clarinet), Karen Murray ’08, Magee Perini ’05, and Carolyn Waite ’06. They will perform “Meditation and March” from Suite #1 by Vaclav Nelhybel; “Piece en Forme de Habanera” by Maurice Ravel, arranged by Tony Finno; and “Sinfonietta in B-flat” by W.A. Mozart, arranged by Arthur Frackenpohl.

The Woodwind Trio will perform “Sonatina in C Major” by Kriedrich Kuhlau, arranged by Tustin. The trio is comprised of Katy Brodhead and Allison Shapp ’08 on flutes and Doremus on clarinet.

To conclude the evening performances, Ken Brader will direct the Brass Ensemble through six pieces: “Austrian Hymn” by Franz Joseph Haydn, arranged by Charles Sayre; “Contrapunctus 1” by J.S. Bach, arranged by Walter Barnes; “Fly Me to the Moon” by Bart Howard, arranged by Jack Gale; “The Harlem Rag” by Tom Turpin, arranged by Arthur Frackenpohl, and two selections from “Six Pieces” by Johan Pezel, edited by Robert King — “Intrade” and “Bal.” The Brass Ensemble is comprised of Michael Werner ’07 and Christopher Jacoby ’07 on trumpets, Carina Fritsche ’07 on French horn, and David Glasser ’06 and Marc Gittleman ’06 on trombones.
