Marking a first in the 105-year Army-Navy football tradition, fans in last November’s classic showed their support to the military’s unsung heroes, military families, by wearing HomeFront UnityBands distributed by the National Military Family Association (NMFA) and the Marquis Trust Group LLC, an organization of Class of 1992 alumni.
Kicking off a nationwide campaign, 7,500 spectators received the blue wristbands, which express thanks and solidarity to the families of U.S. military personnel. The campaign is an extension of HomeFront Cards, a program in which thousands of U.S. military family members have received notes of thanks and support from Americans throughout the country. HomeFront Cards were featured at the 2003 Army-Navy Classic and are offered through the program’s web site.
“Our military and their families are true heroes,” says Tom Neale ’92, a member of Marquis Trust Group and former Army Officer with the 82nd Airborne Division. “There is no better forum to thank our nation’s military families than the Army-Navy Classic, an event filed with great tradition and pride.”
“[UnityBands are] a great opportunity for the public to acknowledge and show their appreciation for the challenges that military families face,” says Julia Pfaff, NMFA executive director. “Knowing the public recognizes the sacrifices gives families strength and support.”
