At first-year orientation Laurie Samet ’79, owner of L.B. Samet Physical Therapy, East Stroudsburg, Pa., thought it sounded cool that Lafayette was seeking student athletic trainers. “I didn’t realize it was a primarily male field.” Although coaches were expecting male students to apply, they quickly adjusted to her. “They were nice, good guys, it was that simple. I worked for the certified athletic trainer in several sports including football, basketball, wrestling and lacrosse, making ice bags, taping ankles, cleaning whirlpools,” she says. As a consequence, she became a certified trainer herself, as well as a physical therapist.
