Lafayette’s Concert Band will present its annual spring concert 3 p.m. Sunday, May 8, at the Williams Center for the Arts.

The public concert is free and will coincide with the closing reception for artist Stacy Levy’s “Blue Lake” exhibition at the Williams Center Art Gallery.

Under the direction of James Moyer, associate professor of music and director of bands, the group will perform music of major wind band composers. The program will include “March Grandioso” by Roland Seitz, “A Festival Prelude” and “Jubilant Overture,” both by Alfred Reed, “Variation Overture” by Clifton Williams, “Acclamation” by James Curnow, and “Sonatina for Band” by Frank Erickson.

“This year’s program is challenging as it represents works by major composers for band,” says Moyer. “Each piece presents different sections of the band — woodwinds, brass, and percussion — in a variety of ways through unique scoring techniques.”

The concert is the first for the band since Moyer’s arrival at Lafayette last fall.

“The students are committed and have worked very hard to improve throughout the semester,” he says. “They represent students from many majors on campus and will be the core group moving ahead as we continue to build the program.”
