The Outdoors Club will team up with Lafayette Environmental Awareness and Protection and the Jacobsburg Environmental Center for a canoe cleanup of the Lehigh River Saturday, Oct. 8. They will clean up debris on the river from canoes in the morning, then go on an “ecotour” of the area via canoe in the afternoon.

The registration deadline is Monday and there is a fee of $15 per person.

The Outdoors Club is also seeking board members to help decide, plan, and organize events. It will host a BBQ for all prospective board members 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at 636 Monroe Street (by Kamine Gymnasium). Those interested should RSVP to Chad Yaindl ’06 (Emmaus, Pa.) at yaindlc before Tuesday. Those who cannot attend the BBQ, but still want to be on the executive board, also should send an email.

The Lafayette Outdoors Club is key to getting off campus and into the great outdoors. There are a multitude of options, from a rare deciduous old growth forest to a raptor preserve, all within a 45-minute drive of campus. Besides day hikes and camping trips the club also canoes and bike rides. To join its mailing list and receive information about trips, hikes, and planning sessions, send an email to Michael Kaczmarczik ’06(Elkins Park, Pa.)at kaczmarm.
