The new regional president of Keystone Nazareth (Pa.) Bank & Trust Co. credits his college extracurricular activities for the success he continues to experience in his profession. KNBT has appointed David B. Kennedy ’83 executive vice president and regional president of the Greater Lehigh Valley Region.
“The Lafayette experience really helped me mature,” he says. “I was the treasurer and president of Delta Kappa Epsilon and co-captain of the golf team. It increased my responsibility and helped me mature a lot from working with alumni. Lafayette also enabled me to go on several internships, and one was in banking.”
The economics and business graduate says skills learned in and out of the classroom helped him develop a sense of responsibility and what it means to be a leader.
In his new position, Kennedy will help oversee two distinct portions of the bank, commercial lending and retail branch banking.
“It allows me to bring them together more closely,” he says. “My new responsibilities have added over 300 employees under my leadership.”
Previously senior vice president for corporate and private banking at KNBT, Kennedy says one of the challenges of his new post is being accessible to 43 branches in four counties. The positive aspect of that is “working with all of these people and appreciating all viewpoints,” he explains. “I also have become very efficient in scheduling.”
Kennedy’s 22 years in banking have included serving as senior vice president and sector manager of Summit Bank (formerly First Valley Bank) in Bethlehem, Pa., and senior vice president of commercial lending at Nazareth Bank. He is a member of several boards, including the Northampton County General Purpose Authority, Higher Education Authority, Hospital Authority, and Historic Bethlehem, Inc.
