SILVERSTEIN FEATURED ON ABC “WORLD NEWS TONIGHT/SUNDAY”
An interview with Helena Silverstein, associate professor and assistant head of government and law, was included in a Nov. 27 segment on ABC’s “World News Tonight/Sunday” on a case that started Nov. 30 in the U. S. Supreme Court that will determine the constitutionality of a New Hampshire law mandating parental notice of minors’ abortion decisions.

LAFAYETTE TAKES FIRST PLACE IN LVAIC MATH CONTEST FOR SIXTH CONSECUTIVE YEAR
The College took first place in the Lehigh Valley Association of Independent Colleges Math Contest and for the second year, took three of the top four places during the Oct. 22 event at Lafayette. WOMEN’S STUDIES CLASS CREATES PROGRAMS FOR SINGLE MOTHERS
A women’s studies class is creating a community service program to assist single mothers and dispel stereotypes about them. The students are attempting to incorporate tutoring, swimming classes, and educational workshops. Taught by Deborah Byrd, associate professor of English, Single Motherhood in the Contemporary U.S.: Myths and Realities brings classroom and hands-on learning together.

FORENSICS SOCIETY WINS SAINT ANSELM TOURNAMENT
Led by first-place finishes from Rachel Heron ’09 (best overall speaker), Mark Kokoska ’08, Bill O’Brien ’07, and Amy Solomito ’09, Forensics Society won a Nov. 5-6 tournament hosted by Saint Anselm College in Manchester, N.H., in which 13 schools competed.

SIMS ’07 STUDIES IN DIJON, FRANCE AFTER RESEARCHING ITS JEWISH COMMUNITY
When Laura Sims ’07, a double major in French and international affairs, arrived in Dijon, France this fall for a semester abroad, she had a head start. She had done extensive research with Robert Weiner, Jones Professor of History, to create an oral history of the city’s Jewish community.

FOOTBALL AND MEN’S SOCCER CLAIM PATRIOT LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIPS
The men’s soccer and football teams earned Patriot League championships in the past few weeks. Men’s soccer defeated American 1-0 in the Patriot League Tournament Championship game and earned the league’s automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. They lost a hard-fought contest at No. 11 Creighton, 3-0, to end the season. BASKETBALL TEAMS OFF TO SOLID START
Men’s and women’s basketball are off to solid beginnings of their non-conference schedules. The women’s squad started 3-0 for the first time since 1996-97, defeating Wagner, St. Francis-N.Y., and Long Island. The men tipped off the season with road games at St. Joseph’s and Notre Dame and fell in both contests, but has since evened the record at 2-2 with the most recent victory at Princeton.

WOMEN’S CREW TAKES SILVER AT HEAD OF THE CHARLES REGATTA Women’s crew earned a silver medal in the Women’s Collegiate Four-Oared event Oct. 22-23 at the Head of the Charles Regatta in Boston, Mass. PRODUCER MARVIN ’04 TRIES OUT ANCHOR SEAT AT USA TODAY
Jill Marvin ’04 produces morning television segments for a program of USA Today called “USA Live” that are distributed to various television stations. She also does the Business Connection segment for the Weather Channel. She recently filled in for a news anchor who was on vacation.

VANDUZER-SNOW ’03 MAKES INTERNATIONAL IMPACT AS ECONOMICS SCHOLAR
Marta Vanduzer-Snow ’03 to serves as visiting scholar at the Observer Research Foundation and India Development Foundation in New Delhi, India. FED APPOINTS MAY ’93 TO ADVISORY BOARD
Just 12 years after leaving Lafayette as a biology major hoping to become a dentist, Eric May ’93 received word that he was appointed to a three-year term on the 12-member advisory board of the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia.
