Economics and business graduate Robert Hayward Jr. ’75 serves as president and CEO of Quarryville Presbyterian Retirement Community in southern Lancaster County, Pa.

“It’s important for everyone to give back for the benefit of others’ participation,” he says. “In the past, others have provided so that I may have opportunities.”

With experience as chief operating officer at Master Manufacturers, Inc. of Carlisle and president of the Hayward Associates financial consulting firm, he says the responsibilities of his position allow him to act as a true CEO because he serves the customers, employees, and owners.

The Christian community houses about 300 residents and Hayward oversees about 350 employees.

He values the relationships that developed at Lafayette and the “variety of experiences, which built a baseline for continued challenges.”

Ralph L. Slaght, then James Renwick Hogg Professor of Philosophy, was a memorable professor and friend.

“I remember his thoughtful sense of humor and his love of the outdoors,” says Hayward.

He is a member of the board of directors and treasurer for the Pennsylvania Family Institute and an elder of Westminster Presbyterian Church. He is a former member of the board of directors for Young Life and the Lancaster County Historic Preservation Trust.
