The development of a new strategic plan for the College is now underway, President Daniel Weiss reported today.
“Through this process, we will create a plan for the future of Lafayette that builds on past achievements and charts new opportunities for enhancing academic quality and improving the learning experience of our students,” Weiss said.
A Strategic Planning Steering Committee made up of faculty, administrators, and trustees will be at the heart of the process, Weiss said. “Their charge is to develop a proposed plan by fall 2007 that includes vision, strategy, goals and objectives, tactics for implementation, and qualitative/quantitative measurements as well as implementation responsibility.
“A number of subcommittees will be appointed by SPSC in order to kick off a yearlong college-wide process of discussion, review, and assessment,” Weiss continued. “The committees will include faculty, administrators, students, alumni, and members of the community. They will be announced after the Board of Trustees planning retreat in early September.”
The plan will be presented to the Board of Trustees, which has responsibility for its adoption and implementation.
Weiss will chair the steering committee, whose members include trustees Edward W. Ahart ’69 and Barbara J. Lombardo ’83.
Faculty members serving on the committee are Wendy L. Hill, Rappolt Professor of Neuroscience; Scott R. Hummel, associate professor of mechanical engineering; Chawne M. Kimber, associate professor of mathematics; George E. Panichas, Hogg Professor of Philosophy; Mary J.S. Roth ’83, Long Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering; Joshua A. Sanborn, associate professor of history; James P. Schaffer, director of engineering; Helena Silverstein, professor of government and law; and James Woolley, Smith Professor of English.
Administrators serving on the committee are Glenn Airgood, director of public information; Anthony M. Cummings, provost and dean of the faculty; Stevie O. Daniels, executive assistant to the president and administrative secretary to the board; James W. Dicker ’85, vice president for development and college relations; Gary A. Evans ’57, executive assistant to the president; James F. Krivoski, vice president for student affairs; Leslie F. Muhlfelder ’81, vice president for human resources and general counsel; and Frederick J. Quivey, vice president for business affairs and treasurer.
