Lafayette and Lehigh fans will watch their schools clash on the gridiron Nov. 18 at nearly 60 football telecast parties across the country.

The telecast webpage on the alumni web site contains an address, phone number, and links to online registration and directions for each party; names, phone numbers, and email links for organizers; and meeting times. For those planning to attend a party, it is essential to visit the webpage in the weeks before the game to check for possible changes to party details. Highlights of the Leopards’ stunning comeback victory last year also are available.

Bill Harding ’85 has hosted a telecast party in the Tampa Bay area for the last handful of years.

“The most rewarding thing is getting to meet and know new people this far south with a common interest in Lafayette,” he says. “We now count over 20 people as new friends since we started this. We’ve been to Devil Rays, Bucs, and Lightning games with most of them. We’re developing a great little community here!”

The Chicago Alumni Chapter has held a telecast party with its Lehigh counterparts at Joe’s Sports Bar for over a decade.

“Alumni, parents, and friends of Lafayette enjoy spending the afternoon together and being a part of the most-played rivalry in the nation,” says organizer Megan Waite ’99. “We are looking forward to another successful telecast party and will be rooting for another Lafayette win!”

Joe Skladany ’82 has hosted a telecast party for about 150 people at his Spectators bar in Bonita Springs, Fla., the last seven years, and is arranging another one at the bar’s new location in Dublin, Ohio.

“The Lehigh alumni outnumber the Leopards alumni two to one in Southwest Florida,” he says, “but we make up the difference with the enthusiasm of our cheering section. We also receive better ‘goodie items’ from Lafayette in the form of T-shirts, pom-poms, media guides, and noise makers, while the Lehigh gang just has a white piece of paper for a sign-up sheet.”

“Last year we made a bet that the losing team had to pick up the bar tab of the winners,” he adds. “Thank God [head coach Frank] Tavani pulled off the field goal team and [called for] the bomb for a TD to win it. Let’s just say drinks were on the house from our buddies at Lehigh.”

The Office of Alumni Affairs would like to hear from alumni who are interested in hosting telecast parties in new locations, including overseas. Possibilities are being explored for London, Switzerland, and India.

Telecast party brochures have been sent to alumni for whom the College has a mailing address. For more information, contact alumni affairs, alumni@lafayette.edu, (610) 330-5040 in Pennsylvania, and 1-800-LAFAYETTE elsewhere.

For those who can’t make it to a party, the game can be seen via Lafayette’s athletics web site and on several national and cable systems through the Lafayette Sports Network or on a tunable satellite dish capable of receiving the KU satellite band (KU Band, SBS 6, Transponder K-9, downlink frequency 11921 Horiz.). Channel listings can be accessed from the athletics web site.
