Founded in 1990 by English graduate Melissa LaBov Dweck ’93 and economics and business graduate Jody Forester ’93, Cadence is Lafayette’s all-female a cappella group. In 2005, the group was the highest-placing all-female group at the International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella (ICCA) Mid-Atlantic regional finals held at Cornell University. Cadence took third place overall, and psychology and English graduate Toni Ahrens ’05was named the semifinals’ Outstanding Soloist for her performance in “Can’t Take My Eyes Off You.”

For over a decade, Lafayette’s all-male a cappella group the Chorduroys has been performing an eclectic mix of songs, ranging from rock and rap to Motown. At the 2005 ICCA Mid-Atlantic tournament, the group placed fourth.

Quintessence, Lafayette’s youngest a cappella group, is a small co-ed jazz ensemble founded by music and economics & business graduate Dave Mitchell ’05. The group performs jazz, swing, salsa, standards, and improvisation. They placed third at the 2005 ICCA Mid-Atlantic regional finals and received best arrangement honors for its “I Dream of Jeannie” medley, which was arranged by chemical engineering major Kaytlin Henry ’07(Little Egg Harbor, N.J.).

Psychology graduate Lisa Oliveri ’04 founded co-ed group Soulfege in 2002. The group has performed throughout the Lehigh Valley, including at Easton’s annual Shad Fishing Tournament.

Friends of Lafayette Music is a group of alumni, parents, and community members who support Lafayette’s four a cappella groups. Since 1998, its financial support has helped the ensembles purchase new equipment, music, uniforms, and supplies. Funds also have allowed the groups to travel and invite professional musicians to campus for workshops.
