Donald L. Miller, John Henry MacCracken Professor of History, will be featured on C-SPAN and Book TV this weekend in programs related to his newest book, Masters of the Air: America’s Bomber Boys Who Fought the Air War Against Nazi Germany. The book examines the social and psychological effects of World War II on bomber crews of the American Eighth Air Force, German citizens, and the English people.

An interview Miller did with journalist Andy Rooney at the National World War II Museum in New Orleans earlier this fall will air on C-SPAN at 4:45 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 23. This will be followed by an additional program that includes Miller and Rooney as well as other speakers at 5:45 p.m. The programs will air again at 5 a.m. and 6 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 24.

Rooney was part of a group of war correspondents who captured the exploits of the Eighth Air Force for the people living back at home. Flying on combat missions, these journalists sent home “you are there” dispatches about the Bomber Boys.

In addition, a talk Miller gave at the Mighty Eighth Air Force Museum in Savannah, Georgia, will air onC-SPAN’s “Book TV” at 5 p.m. Monday, Dec. 25, and at 9 p.m. Jan. 1.

Master’s, released Oct. 10 by Simon & Schuster, is Miller’s eighth published work and third WWII book. It has received a great deal of media attention including a glowing review in the New York Times
