Hockey Night at the Verizon Center will feature the Washington Capitals vs. Boston Bruins 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 6. Seats are in the mezzanine ends and cost $24 per ticket, with a limit of four per person. Typically, these tickets cost $35 each. RSVPis required by Tuesday, Jan. 16. The chapter will join with admissions and alumni affairs to host D.C. Career Weekend Feb. 23-24. Transportation will be provided for Lafayette students so they can network with alumni working in the area. This event is also open to Lafayette students participating in the Washington Semester at American University. Thirsty Thursday events continue on the first Thursday of each month. On Oct. 18, 34 alumni attended a wine tasting at Best Cellars in Arlington, Va. Alumni Affairs Director Sherri Jones and Mary Pat Staats, associate director of alumni affairs, were in attendance. Chapter members were invited to attend a book-signing party with Donald L. Miller, MacCracken Professor of History, on Oct. 23. The chapter hosted its Lafayette-Lehigh telecast party at the Grand Hyatt’s Grand Slam Sports Bar. A small group of alumni attended a global issues forum hosted by Joshua Sanborn, associate professor of history, as part of the College’s strategic planning. Hockey Night at the Verizon Center for the Washington Capitals vs. Boston Bruins is set for Tuesday, Feb. 6.

During the weekend of the Lafayette-Harvard football game, the chapter had a buffet dinner for 34 alumni and friends. Kristine Zeigler ’96 and Larry Kulig ’81 hosted and Bruce McCutcheon, director of athletics, was the featured speaker. On Saturday, President Dan Weiss and his family joined more than 250 Leopards fans at a pregame tailgate. Jamie Hughes ’05 represented the Office of Alumni Affairs. The party was cosponsored by the chapter, Maws & Paws, the Maroon Club, and Friends of Football. Supporters of the crew team set up a picnic area along the Boston shore at the Head of the Charles Regatta Oct. 31. Patriot League Happy Hour at The Place Nov. 30 gave the opportunity to mingle with alumni from American, Bucknell, Colgate, Holy Cross, and Lehigh. Greg Koskinas ’00 hosted the Lafayette-Lehigh football telecast party at The Harp.

New Jersey: Central
The Lafayette Alumni Association invites area alumni and their families to an evening of culture and camaraderie Sunday, March 25, at the Hunterdon Museum of Art, 7 Lower Center Street, Clinton, N.J. A cocktail reception will start at 5:30 p.m., followed by a museum tour at 6:30 p.m. guided by Jim Toia, director of Lafayette’s Grossman Gallery and Community-Based Teaching Program. One exhibit visitors will see is War in the World: Artists Respond to the Last Five Years, which displays different reactions to the last five years of war on many fronts. Another is Tom Nussbaum, New Work: Sculpture, Paper Cutouts, Drawings. The Montclair artist uses quiet signs and symbols to portray images of the everyman and the world. The work captures many fleeting moments of reflection and realization that are common to all. RSVP for the event with payment in full is due by Monday, March 5. A guest list and nametags at the museum will serve as admission to the exhibits. The South Jersey and Philadelphia chapters hosted happy hour at the Public House in Philadelphia on Oct. 12 to welcome Class of 2006 alumni in the area. The chapter held its annual dinner Oct. 18 at Tavistock Country Club. Appointed officers include Joe Grimes ’74, president; Nancy Dwyer ’03, vice president; Bob Magee ’47, secretary; and Bruce Haines ’73, treasurer. More than 30 guests enjoyed a presentation by Larry Malinconico, associate professor of geology and environmental geosciences, who shared pictures from his trip with students to the Colorado plateau. The trip will be offered to students and alumni this summer. Jamie Hughes ’05, assistant director of alumni affairs, also attended. The chapter is seeking suggestions on community organizations to assist during Lafapalooza; contact alumni affairs.

Susan Averett, professor and head of economics and business, was featured speaker at a gathering in mid- November. Associate Director of Alumni Affairs Mary Pat Staats also attended. The chapter hosted its second annual Wine Tasting Party in early December. The annual Finance Night at The Princeton Club on Oct. 24 brought more than 100 alumni and students together for an evening of networking and discussing careers in finance. Mary Pat Staatsattended the event for the alumni affairs office. Vintage New York was the location of the chapter’s second annual pre-holiday celebration and wine tasting party, hosted again by Haley Sarsfield ’02. In mid-December, alumni participated in a global issues forum held by Joshua Sanborn, associate professor of history, as part of the College’s strategic planning process. In conjunction with alumni affairs and career services, the chapter will host the second annual New York Networking Night on Jan. 18. The chapter plans to undertake a community service project for the Lafapalooza volunteer weekend in April.

Michiko Okaya, gallery director of the Williams Center for the Arts since 1979, was the featured speaker at the annual fall dinner Nov. 16 at the Naval Support Center in Mechanicsburg. She talked about the yearlong activities planned at the College to commemorate the 250th birthday of the Marquis de Lafayette, which will be Sept. 6, 2007. She is a key member of the committee charged with planning and conducting the celebration. Other speakers at the dinner were Adam S. Stauffer, assistant director of major gifts, and Jamie Hughes ’05, assistant director of alumni affairs and former men’s basketball captain, who reported on the team.

Ronald H. Pollack Jr. ’85 organized the chapter’s telecast party at The Brickyard Restaurant & Sports Pub for this past season’s game, where fans enjoyed watching the Leopards defeat Lehigh for the third straight year, 49-27.

A bus trip is headed to the Franklin Institute in Philadelphia Saturday, March 31, for the Tutankhamun Exhibit, which is touring the U.S. for the first time in more than 20 years. It includes ancient treasures from the tomb of the celebrated pharaoh King Tut, other Valley of the Kings tombs, and additional sites. There will be time to enjoy the Ben Franklin Institute’s many interactive exhibits. The bus leaves the Williams Center for the Arts at 9 a.m., arrives at the Franklin Institute at 10:30 a.m., departs at 6 p.m., and arrives at Lafayette at 7:30 p.m. There will be free time for lunch. RSVP with payment in full is due Friday, Jan. 26. Cost is $67 for LALV dues payers and $72 for others. Lafayette Family Skate will be held at the Steel Ice Center of Bethlehem, 320 East First Street, noon-2 p.m. Saturday, March 3. Students from the ice hockey team will be on hand to assist children. Participants are invited to stay for the annual hockey game between team members and alumni at 3:15 p.m. The skating facility will be reserved for Lafayette families and alumni. Cost is $10 per family and includes snacks and skate rentals; participants may bring their own skates. Skaters of all ages and skill levels are welcome, from beginners to seasoned skaters. Children are encouraged to bring bicycle helmets for added safety. The rink is indoors, but the ice will make the temperature cold, so sweaters and gloves will make skating more enjoyable. Lafayette Dinner Club, featuring the Lafayette dining crew headed by Chef Micheal Kramlich and host John Perella, continues with Les Misérables: French Country Cuisine, Feb. 14; Oklahoma!: Midwestern Barbeque, March 21; and South Pacific: Polynesian Luau, April 18. Alumni, parents, family, and community friends are invited to share with Lafayette students a unique opportunity to dine at themed dinners in the Bergethon Room of Marquis Hall. Dinners are held 4:30-6:30 p.m. Wednesdays. Cost is $12.95 per adult and $7.95 for children ages 5-12, payable (cash only) at the door. Robert S. Mattison, Metzgar Professor of Art, treated 78 people to a guided tour of the Andy Warhol exhibit at Allentown Art Museum’s Night of Pop Culture. Mattison was curator for both this and a Pop Goes the Press exhibit. Rachel Pidcock ’09 assisted him this summer. Autumn Leciston Bragg ’90 represented the Office of Alumni Affairs. The chapter hosted an evening with Donald L. Miller, MacCracken Professor of History, featuring a discussion and signing of his new book, Masters of the Air. Sherri Jones and Mary Pat Staats also attended the program.

Lafayette-Lehigh week events included a pre-game pub night at downtown Easton’s Pearly Baker’s Ale House, owned by Jonathan Davis ’93. The following evening featured the annual football dinner at the Pomfret Club with senior team members and coaches as guests of honor. Autumn Leciston Bragg ’90 attended the pub night for the alumni affairs office.

Alex Karapetian ’04 and Brian Cort ’99 are hosting happy hours the first Thursday of every month at Bethlehem Brew Works through June. The chapter again will participate in the Lafapalooza volunteer weekend April 13-14.

The next Leopard Luncheon will be held noon Thursday, Feb. 15, at The Vesper Club, 223 S. Sydenham St. (between 15th and 16th, Walnut and Locust Streets). The theme is “Beating Swords into Plowshares: The Opening of Lafayette College, 1832,” featuring Diane Shaw, College archivist, who will present an in-depth look at the opening of Lafayette. The fifth and sixth (final) Leopard Luncheons of 2006-07 will be held Thursday, March 15 and April 19.

The chapter kicked off the fall season with a Leopard Luncheon featuring head football coach Frank Tavani in his 19th consecutive appearance as the September guest speaker. Autumn Leciston Bragg ’90, associate director of alumni affairs, also attended. The October Leopard Luncheon had guest speaker Jim Lennertz, associate professor of government and law, and John Leone, associate director of major gifts and color commentator for the Lafayette Sports Network, came in November.

About 30 young alumni gathered Oct. 6 at the Public House at Logan Square for a happy hour organized by Carrie Chaitt ’03, who will take over as chapter president in January. Alumni saw Domestic Import, a film by Andrea Malamut ’78, at the Regal Warrington cinema on Oct. 13. Lafayette-Lehigh football telecast parties were held at two locations. The first Philadelphia Networking Night, an evening of information sharing sponsored by career services and alumni affairs, will take place 6-9 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 16, at Park Hyatt Philadelphia at the Bellevue. The chapter hopes to participate in Lafapalooza; contact alumni affairs with suggestions for a community organization to serve.
