Lafayette will honor more than 100 students who attained outstanding academic success and recognize students invited to become members of Phi Beta Kappa at the annual All-College Honors Convocation 2 p.m. Sunday, April 29, in the Williams Center for the Arts.

The keynote speaker will be Yolanda Wisher ’98, a poet, teacher, and leader in the greater Philadelphia arts community.

J. Ronald Martin, chair of the Academic Progress Committee and professor of chemical engineering, will open the ceremony, followed by remarks from President Daniel H. Weiss.

Prizes will be awarded by J. Randolph Stonesifer, chair of the Subcommittee on Honors Convocation and professor of mathematics; Michael Jordan, member of the Subcommittee on Honors Convocation and assistant professor of foreign languages and literatures; and Rose Marie L. Bukics, Thomas Roy and Lura Forrest Jones Professor of Economics and Business and dean of studies. Provost Anthony Cummings will provide the closing remarks.

Wisher is the founder and president of the Germantown Poetry Festival, and was co-founder of Poetry for People Philly. She was named the first poet laureate of Montgomery County, Pa. She has served on the board of directors and was an associate editor for Open City: A Journal of Community Arts and Culture. She is the recipient of a Reinke Grant for Humanities Studies and a Cave Canem Fellowship. She teaches at the Germantown Friends School where she advises the Poetry Slam Team. Wisher, a member of Phi Beta Kappa, graduated magna cum laude from Lafayette with a double major in English and interdisciplinary studies, and honors in English. She earned an M.A. from Temple University. While at Lafayette, she was the recipient of the H. MacKnight Black Poetry and Literature Prize and the Aaron O. Hoff Service Above Self Award.
