Numerous members of the College community traveled to Lincoln, R.I., today and over the weekend to attend funeral services for Daniel O’Neil ’06.

O’Neil, who graduated last May with a B.S. in civil engineering, was one of 32 people killed in the tragic shootings April 16 at Virginia Tech.

The College has provided bus transportation sponsored by the Dean of Students and Religious Life offices. The bus left early this morning for the 10 a.m. funeral and will be returning this evening.

John Colatch, director of religious life and College chaplain, says he also received numerous emails and calls from students and alumni saying they would be driving up over the weekend in order to attend services.

Mary J.S. Roth ’83, Simon Professor and head of civil and environmental engineering; David Brandes, associate professor of civil and environmental engineering; James Krivoski, vice president of student affairs; and Allison Blatt, operations director of the Williams Center, are among the staff and faculty who accompanied students on the bus.

President Daniel Weiss drove to Lincoln yesterday to also attend the wake for O’Neil held at Lincoln High School.

Information about a campus memorial service will be announced as plans become firm.
