Bragg and Alumni Affairs Director Sherri Jones attended.

The chapter conducted service April 14 in conjunction with Lafapalooza: Lafayette’s National Days of Service. Pictures are available on the College’s web site. Chaitt organized the event along with Weiler, who gives this report:
“On Saturday, April 14, a group of dedicated Lafayette alumni and friends gathered at PhilAbundance, the largest food bank in the Delaware Valley. Lending a hand to help keep hunger at bay were Carrie Chaitt ’03, president of the Philadelphia Alumni Chapter, Claudia Muller ’86, chapter treasurer, Ellen Poriles Weiler ’83, chapter executive committee member, Jeannie Boddorff Haas ’76, Alyssa Romano ’04 and her sister Nicole, and Mark ’81 and Marion ’81 McCourt and their daughter, Lauren.
“Our morning was devoted to packing boxes of non-perishable items for senior citizens. In a three-hour time period 1,000 boxes were assembled, setting a new record at PhilAbundance. We worked with about 25 other volunteers in an assembly-line system. Efficiency was the hallmark of our success, with PhilAbundance supervisor Maria and volunteer coordinator Jan Barnett teaching our group how to pack boxes and keep the production line moving.
“We proudly sported our Lafayette College volunteer T-shirts and enjoyed the much-needed dose of caffeine and pastries provided by Carrie and Ellen. Taking into consideration that 27 percent of the food produced in the U.S. goes to waste each year while millions go hungry, it is the goal of PhilAbundance to work to change this contradiction. Our participation was just one small step towards eliminating hunger and assisting a worthwhile organization in achieving their objectives.”

The sixth and final Leopard Luncheon of 2006-07 featured men’s soccer head coach Dennis Bohn April 19. Economics graduate Leslie Muhlfelder ’81 spoke at the March 15 Leopard Luncheon, discussing the perspectives she has had on Lafayette as a student, alumnus, and vice president for human resources, general counsel, and adjunct instructor of government and law. Diane Shaw, College archivist, presented an in-depth look at the opening of Lafayette during the Feb. 15 Leopard Luncheon. Her talk was titled “Beating Swords into Plowshares: The Opening of Lafayette College, 1832.” She says, “The Lafayette College that opened its doors in 1832 was about as different from the Lafayette of 2007 as night from day. The College very nearly didn’t happen; the founders had great difficulty finding someone who would come and start up the College and then when they finally got George Junkin to agree to come, he wanted to create a very different sort of school than what they had in mindI always enjoy reminding our students that they’ve got it pretty good–the original 43 students walked to Easton from Philadelphia carrying their belongings with them, and then, when they arrived on the south side of Easton, they actually had to build their own dormitories.” The chapter kicked off the fall season with a Leopard Luncheon featuring head football coach Frank Tavani in his 19th consecutive appearance as the September guest speaker. Autumn Leciston Bragg ’90 attended. The October Leopard Luncheon welcomed guest speaker Jim Lennertz, associate professor of government and law, and John Leone, associate director of major gifts and color commentator for the Lafayette Sports Network, addressed alumni in November.
