He is seeking donations for the six-day, 500-mile Pennsylvania Perimeter Ride Against Cancer
From July 29- Aug. 4, Daniel McDonald ’10 (Palmerton, Pa.) will bike 500 miles from Erie to Palmerton, Pa., to help fight cancer in the Lehigh Valley.
The Pennsylvania Perimeter Ride Against Cancer is a six-day biennial ride raising funds for the American Cancer Society and Dream Come True. To date, the PPRAC has raised almost $600,000 during its 12 trips.
In order to ride, participants must raise over $1,000 each by the July 27 deadline. McDonald is currently halfway to his goal. Members of the Lafayette community can support the effort by contacting him through email.
“Both my aunt and my uncle passed away from cancer within the last three years,” says McDonald. “I feel that by participating in this ride I am in some way honoring all the things that they have done for me while simultaneously trying to get rid of the terrible affliction that killed them.”
Contributions can be made out to the American Cancer Society and sent to McDonald’s home address: 681 Franklin Avenue, Palmerton, Pa., 18071, or his campus address: box 8544.
The American Cancer Society receives 85 percent of the donations, while 15 percent goes toward the Dream Come True Foundation, a branch of the ACS which provides wishes to chronically ill children.
McDonald is pursuing a self designed major in film studies. During his junior year, he hopes to study abroad at the Film and Television School in Dusseldorf, Germany, and study film at New York University after graduation. He currently works as a student assistant for Information Technology Services in Skillman Library.
