Ithaka and NITLE Conference will discuss latest information resources

Lafayette will be hosting the national workshop, “Inter-organizational Collaborations – Innovating for the Disciplines,” 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, Dec. 7 in Skillman Library.

The event is sponsored by the National Institute for Technology and Liberal Education (NITLE) and Ithaka, an independent not-for-profit organization with a mission to accelerate the productive uses of information technologies for the benefit of higher education worldwide.

The workshop will focus on the information resources available for economics, history, and the biological sciences, as well as the attitudes, practices, and expectations of faculty members when dealing with library services.

Institutional teams, made up of at least two professional librarians and possibly some library directors will be in attendance. Informational technologists are also encouraged to attend.

Lafayette responded to an early request by NITLE for a campus to host the workshop. NITLE and Ithaka selected the College because they felt that the school was best positioned to benefit from hosting the inter-institutional event.

According to Terese Heidenwolf, associate director for research and instructional services, University of Puget Sound, Furman University, and Lewis & Clark College will be in attendance, along with teams from other schools.

“I expect that the workshop will help librarians better understand how faculty — particularly those in biology, economics, and history — use information today and how the library can better serve them and their students,” says Heidenwolf.
