Footage may be used in ABC News election coverage

Jacquelynn Molzon ’08 (Durham, N.C.) is the star of three videos showcasing her political views on ABCNews.com’s interactive web page, “Talkback.” ABC News says it may use a video in its televised election coverage this week.

Molzon, who is pursuing a B.S. in biology and A.B. in economics and business, became involved with “Talkback” through Meghan Baker ’07, an English and government & law graduate. Baker is a sales assistant with ABC Family, and is currently helping with election coverage at ABC News and ABC News Now. Baker was a news anchor during last year’s ENvision, the College’s first-ever, undergraduate run, live election broadcast. The broadcast was sponsored and organized by the Policy Studies program and Molzon is currently in the Industry, Strategy, and Policy course taught by Mark Crain, Simon Professor of Political Economy and chair of Policy Studies.

Baker is very excited about her involvement with the elections and believes her work here at Lafayette helped prepare her.

“I was on the set last night for Super Tuesday,” says Baker. “I was literally a step away from Diane Sawyer, Charles Gibson, and George Stephanopolous. It was great to see what goes on behind the scenes. The anchors are literally passed a note card with results on them.

“The ENvision election night broadcast that we had at Lafayette last year ran very similar to how things were last night. The results were read as they came in. A prompter was not needed for much of it because they did not have time to input anything into the prompter. The results were aired on TV and the anchors read these as they came on the screen.”
