Members of track & field and cross country teams will reunite during Reunion Weekendby Carrie Pasternak ’08

Reunion Weekend will have a special addition this June when past members of the track & field and cross country teams get together. While Reunion Chair Gregory D. Eggert ’79 notes that there was a previous gathering several years ago, this year will mark the first time that any team has held a reunion in conjunction with the annual Reunion Weekend.

  • Online registration and extensive information on Reunion Weekend are available on the Reunion web site. The deadline to register without an additional charge is Thursday, May 1.

Eggert says it was decided sometime in the fall that the team would host a reunion and several members held a meeting on Homecoming weekend. The team will have a tent set up on the Quad for a picnic from noon-4 p.m. Saturday.

Eggert is most excited about seeing his former teammates and classmates. “I had a great time at Lafayette and I wanted to reunite with members of the track team from when I was an undergrad,” he says. “I’ve certainly been impressed by the performances of the track team this year and the past several years and I thought [Reunion Weekend] would be a great opportunity to have other members come back as well.”

During Reunion, members of the track & field and cross country teams will host a ceremony at the Metzger Athletic Complex to dedicate the teams’ new locker rooms. Stanley Ciemniecki ’75 has donated funds to endow the men’s locker room in the name of former coach William Donohue. Track & field and cross country alumni will have the opportunity to sponsor lockers by making a donation; each donor’s name will be on a plaque on a locker.

“Reunion Weekend is just a phenomenal experience for people to come back and see their former classmates,” says Eggert. “Any opportunity to come back to the College is a plus, but if you can come back and spend the day or an afternoon with some of your fraternity brothers or teammates, why pass that up? It’s great fun and we’re going to have a great time.”

Eggert is also a member of Delta Tau Delta Fraternity and is the fraternity’s liaison to the College.
