Group will hold first networking event Saturday afternoon

Lafayette has formed the McDonogh Network to provide networking opportunities for African American and other black alumni and students. The group is comprised of all African American and black alumni.

“At a time when Lafayette has strengthened its commitment to diversity on campus, we’re pleased that the McDonogh Network can serve as a supportive community for our African American and other black alumni,” says Sherri Jones, director of alumni affairs.

A steering committee comprised of 27 alumni is providing initial direction for the network. The committee plans to add student representatives as well as involve faculty.

The network will hold a career panel and networking event 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 27, at the Portlock Black Cultural Center, 101 McCartney Street. Those planning to attend should RSVP with Leah Heinrich, heinricl@lafayette.edu.

Earlier that day, the College will dedicate a sculpture honoring David Kearney McDonogh 1844, its first black graduate, and host a lecture on his life.
