Music and psychology double major volunteers for numerous Easton organizations
Sandra Jacinto ’11 (Washington, D.C.) is using her skills to serve the local community. A double major in music and psychology, Jacinto loves to be involved in service activities, particularly those that apply her majors.
Jacinto has been playing the piano for 14 years. Each week she performs for members of the Third Street Alliance’s adult care services, applying her music and psychological training. Jacinto also works with local daycare students, tutors at March Elementary School, and is a member of the Best Buddies program, where college students are paired with a person with intellectual disabilities.
Jacinto became immersed in volunteer work while she was in high school and simply continues to seek out ways to get involved with the local community. The Posse Scholar says the many organizations and activities available on campus were one reason she decided to come to Lafayette.
“I would love to be a music teacher, a psychologist, or a music therapist,” says Jacinto. “Lafayette has a growing music program so I knew that I could keep playing. I didn’t start looking into psychology until I had a great experience here with one of my professors who really made it interesting.”
