Alumni and students will network together at events in New York and Philadelphia

Nothing packs more networking firepower for Lafayette alumni and students than a networking night.

Students make valuable contacts in a comfortable environment while alumni network with one another and meet students who may represent future talent in their industries.

Organized by career services in conjunction with alumni affairs, networking nights are on tap Thursday, Jan. 15, at the Harvard Club in New York City and Tuesday, Jan. 13, at the Park Hyatt Philadelphia at the Bellevue.

Both feature networking among alumni 6-7 p.m. followed by a two-hour networking reception for alumni and students. Alumni can RSVP through Dec. 29 via the events calendar in the Alumni Online Community.

“I enjoy participating in the Lafayette networking events because the best thing I did when I was still in college was talk to people about how they got to where they are today,” says Sarah Smedley ’07, account coordinator for the Taylor public relations firm in New York.

“I continue to participate in programs like the networking night because I enjoy communicating with the students,” says Gene Kelsey ’79, vice president of the brand strategy group at Panasonic in Secaucus, N.J. “It is a good feeling to have the opportunity to assist them in finding their way or to share ideas and resources with them. Looking back at the time I was going through trying to figure out what to do and how to get there, it was great if you had someone to bounce ideas off of, or to help provide some ‘real world’ guidance and suggestions.”

Recent off-campus student-alumni networking events have included Finance Night and a trip to Merrill Lynch, both in New York. Another networking event in New York focusing on the arts, entertainment, media, and communications fields will take place in March.
